Economy Stitched Edge Coir Door Mats

Our Economy Stitched Edge Coir Mats are a great choice for those seeking a low cost, eco-friendly and long-lasting solution to keep their homes clean. Made from responsibly sourced natural coir fibre, these mats are constructed with a machine-stitched jute woven edge, ensuring both quality and renewability. Due to the biodegradable nature of the Coir material, we recommend only using these mats indoors or in semi-exposed areas like porches and covered doorways.

The Economy Coir Doormats have a traditional coir backing, which makes them suitable for use with underfloor heating systems. Their environmentally sustainable and 100% biodegradable nature makes these coir doormats the perfect accessory for individuals who prioritise a greener, more sustainable lifestyle. By choosing our Coir Mats, you are not only investing in a cost-effective option but also making a positive impact on the environment, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Please note, it is important you do not cut these doormats to alter the size or shape. The stitched edges play a vital role in maintaining the mats shape and durability. If the edges are cut, the doormat will fray and unravel. If you require a custom size traditional coir doormat, we offer the option for tailored measurements to suit your specific needs. The best way to look after your Coir Doormat and to keep them looking their best is to brush, vacuum or shake them regularly in order to remove dirt and residue from building up in the mat and on the surface. This will help to freshen and tidy up the appearance.

It's recommended to avoid placing the doormat in direct sunlight for extended periods, as this can cause the natural fibres to fade.

Turn the doormat on a regular basis to even the wear and tear. This simple practice can help distribute the foot traffic and prevent uneven fading and deterioration.

As coir is a natural product derived from the husk of coconuts, the doormat will shed fibres throughout its lifetime. These fibres will shed more during the first few weeks of use, this shedding is a natural characteristic as the mat settles into its intended purpose. Over time, with regular maintenance such as light vacuuming or shaking, the shedding will reduce, leaving you with a long-lasting and low-maintenance doormat that enhances the entrance of your home.

If your Coir door mat becomes waterlogged, we recommend you remove the doormat and lay it somewhere to dry off. Try to lay it flat on an open surface, such as a rack or a slatted garden table. It's important to ensure that the mat dries thoroughly to prevent mould or mildew from forming and the coir biodegrading. If the backing is very wet, turn the mat upside down and place it in direct sunlight for a few hours or a warm, well-ventilated area to speed up the drying process. It's worth noting that if the coir mat is left in standing water for an extended period, it can significantly impact the integrity and lifespan of the doormat, so prompt drying is crucial for maintaining its quality.

We do not recommend washing or hosing your coir doormat as this can affect the structure of the doormat. If you do hose it down or wash it, please make sure it is fully dry before you relay it. If your mat becomes particularly grubby we recommend using a stiff bristled brush to help remove the dirt and then bang it against a wall or shake it outside.

We do not recommend using cleaning products on the coir material as they can affect the colour or cause damage to the fibres. If your mat becomes smelly, give the mat a good vacuum and sprinkle over a mixture of baking soda and cornstarch. Agitate this mixture with a stiff brush and then vacuum well and remove it after 30 minutes. This should help to remove any odours without damaging the mat.

Coir mats are biodegradable, so when it's time to replace your doormat, you can rest assured that it won't contribute to environmental waste - you can even place it on your compost heap! Proper care and maintenance can help extend the lifespan of your coir mat, keeping it looking fresh and welcoming for years to come.
