Does coir decompose?

Yes, coir - also known as coconut fibre - is a natural, biodegradable material, making it an eco-friendly choice. Over time, coir fibres will naturally decompose, and once your mat reaches the end of its life, you can even add it to your compost heap to break down alongside other organic waste.

Please note: If your mat has a PVC backing, this part will not fully biodegrade like the coir fibres. While the PVC may break down over time, it won’t decompose in the same way as natural materials, so it may be best to avoid placing this on the compost heap.
